Kim Jong Un links peace to power as North Korea showcases drones and new rocket launcher

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for complete dominance in drone technology at an exhibition in Pyongyang, saying changing demands in modern warfare made it essential. He urged scientists to speed up work on drones and artificial intelligence for national defence, linking the preservation of peace to military strength.

A push for drones and artificial intelligence

Kim attended the advanced drone and aeronautical technology exhibition in the North Korean capital. According to the country's news agency, the event was intended to highlight national defence capabilities and the technical strength of its armed forces.

The exhibition presented recent developments in drone technology alongside future plans. Addressing those attending, Kim called on the country's scientists to use all their capabilities to achieve rapid progress in drones and defence-related artificial intelligence.

“Power itself means peace, and peace can only be guaranteed through power.”

The displays covered several categories of unmanned aircraft, rather than a single type. The technologies and plans presented included:

  • Strategic drones
  • Operational drones
  • Multipurpose drones
  • Suicide attack drones

Weapons demonstrations include rocket launcher debut

The exhibition also included live demonstrations of advanced weapons. Tactical suicide drones, air-to-ground missiles launched from multipurpose drones, and tactical cruise missiles struck targets during the display.
