Pakistan Football at Risk of Being Banned by FIFA

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) faces a potential ban from FIFA, the sport’s global governing body, due to third-party interference in its administration. The recent ousting of PFF Normalisation Committee (NC) officials from their Lahore headquarters has raised significant concerns about the future of football in Pakistan.

The dispute with the Punjab Revenue Department over the building’s lease escalated after a Lahore court lifted the PFF’s stay order. The Punjab Revenue Department claims the lease was canceled in 2021 and has now taken control of the property. This sudden development has left the PFF in a state of administrative turmoil.

The potential FIFA ban could have dire consequences for Pakistan’s footballing community, as it could result in the suspension of international competitions and financial support from FIFA. PFF NC Chairman Haroon Malik expressed his concern over the situation and emphasized the need for the government’s involvement to resolve the issue.

Pakistan’s football fans have also expressed their disappointment and frustration, calling upon both local and federal governments to swiftly address the matter. The situation underscores the importance of maintaining the autonomy of sports organizations to ensure the smooth functioning and development of sports at the national level, while also urging cooperation and mediation to prevent a disruption of football in Pakistan.
