“Babar Azam has not Won a Big Match for Pakistan Since 2019′: Imad Wasim

Imad Wasim, the seasoned all-rounder of the Pakistan cricket team, has openly expressed his disappointment with the team’s captain, Babar Azam, following Pakistan’s loss to Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023. The match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru saw Pakistan chasing a formidable target of 368 runs, and their defeat by 62 runs drew attention to both Babar’s leadership and his individual performance, as he was dismissed for a mere 18 runs in 14 balls.

Imad Wasim’s candid comments were made during an interview on a local TV channel, where he highlighted an observation rather than criticized Babar Azam. Wasim pointed out that Babar hasn’t led Pakistan to victory against a major team since 2019. He emphasized that while the international stage is undoubtedly high-pressure, it is also the platform where a captain can showcase their leadership skills and capabilities.

Wasim underlined that the last significant match where Babar excelled was in the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand, during which he scored a century. However, he noted that since that victory, Pakistan hasn’t secured a win in a major match under Babar’s leadership. This statement by Imad Wasim serves as a reflection on the team’s performance and the aspirations of Pakistani cricket fans, rather than a direct criticism of the captain. It highlights the desire for stronger leadership and success in high-stakes international matches.
