The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed on Tuesday that around 1,000 Schengen visa stickers were taken from the Italian embassy’s lockers in Islamabad.
In response to questioning from media, Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared information with the necessary authorities for taking appropriate action on the theft of Schengen visa stickers from the Italian embassy in Islamabad.”
The foreign diplomatic mission had reported the theft of visa stickers to the government, he said. “We shared the information with the relevant authorities right away and asked them to take proper action,” Chaudhri added.
According to reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alerted the Ministry of Interior as well as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after the incident was reported.
The responsible departments have been asked to maintain track of the visa stickers at all entry and exit ports and report any seizures to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to them.
