Lahore authorities are preparing a major verification drive to check the criminal records of commercial vehicle drivers holding LTV, HTV and PSV licences.
Driver information is being collected from bus terminals and other relevant locations and will be cross-checked through the Criminal Record Office (CRO).
The move follows the discovery of a bus driver who reportedly had 27 registered cases, including allegations related to robbery, theft and fatal accidents.
Authorities are now seeking to identify drivers with criminal records as part of efforts to strengthen safety checks across the city’s public and commercial transport system.
Lahore CTO Abdul Rahim Sherazi said licences of drivers found to have criminal records may be cancelled, while arrests could be made in accordance with the law where applicable.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving public safety and protecting passengers and other road users.
