A Yemeni Village Located on a Rock About 600 Years Old

Haid Al-Jazil is a very special place in the world. It is a small village located in the Yemeni district of Dawan, in the Hadhramaut province. What makes this village unique is that it sits on top of a huge rock and overlooks a long valley, which is mostly empty and deserted.

Many years ago, there used to be hundreds of people living in this village. However, according to a census conducted in 2004, there are now only 17 people living here. These people face challenges such as isolation, loneliness, and difficult terrain.

Abu Baker Ahmad Bamousa Al Amoudi, his wife, and their eight children are the only family living alone in their home, while others share their living spaces with other families.

“My father, who has passed away, advised me to stay here until I die. Both my parents lived here, and they were buried here,” says the 49-year-old farmer. He graciously allowed us rare access to his remote home.
