After a 13-year hiatus, German airline Lufthansa is to resume weekly passenger flights to Pakistan, according to an envoy.
According to German Ambassador to Pakistan Bernhard Stephan Schlagheck, a delegation of German businessmen would visit Pakistan next week to explore investment prospects.
It was revealed that the corporate delegation will visit Karachi and Islamabad, where they will meet with private sector investors and high-ranking government officials.
The upcoming visit of a German delegation to Pakistan, according to Secretary Mazhar, is a very encouraging indication for the country’s economy.
She claims that a high-level meeting with Siemens’ global CFO to discuss the company’s future plans will pave the way for Siemens to expand its presence in Pakistan.
While outlining the many potentials in Pakistan, the secretary stated that regulatory reform is a top priority for the current government, with investor facilitation receiving special emphasis.
She informed the ambassador about the ten-year tax exemption that has been implemented in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as well as the groundbreaking one-window operation that will be inaugurated at the end of November this year.
She added that multinational corporations such as Samsung and Uniqlo are about to begin operations in Pakistan, and she told German investors that the Board of Investment, as the country’s premier investment promotion and facilitation institution, will assist them at every step of the way.
After suspending flights in Pakistan in 1998, Lufthansa, a German airline and a member of the Star Alliance Network, restarted operations in 2007. For undisclosed commercial reasons, the German flag carrier stated in October 2008 that it would cease its flying operations in Karachi and Lahore.
