Dubai-based global ports operator is preparing plans to develop a new port and container terminal on the UAE’s eastern coast in Fujairah, a strategic move aimed at enhancing the country’s logistics network and reducing reliance on the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposed facility will provide a direct shipping route through the Gulf of Oman, creating an alternative gateway for international cargo movement and strengthening the UAE’s position as a major global trade hub.
By expanding access beyond traditional maritime routes, the project is expected to improve supply chain flexibility and offer greater protection against potential disruptions affecting regional shipping lanes.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over geopolitical tensions in the region and the vulnerability of key waterways that play a critical role in global commerce and energy transportation.
Developing additional port capacity on the eastern coastline will help the UAE build greater maritime resilience while ensuring smoother movement of goods for businesses and international partners.
Although Dubai’s flagship will remain a central pillar of the UAE’s shipping and logistics operations, the Fujairah project is designed to complement existing infrastructure by providing another strategic option for cargo handling and trade connectivity.
The new development reflects the UAE’s long-term vision of strengthening its logistics capabilities, safeguarding supply chains, and maintaining its role as one of the world’s leading centers for maritime trade and transportation.
