Apps Developed from Pakistan Downloaded 4 Billion Times Globally in 2022

In 2023, Pakistani app developers have made significant progress, rising from the 27th position in 2018 to an impressive 16th position, according to Google. Last year, apps created in Pakistan were downloaded a remarkable four billion times.

During the first half of this fiscal year, Pakistan’s IT exports increased by 2%, reaching $1.3 billion. Research by Arif Habib, a well-known Pakistani investment banking and securities firm, revealed that these IT exports accounted for 38% of the country’s total service exports.

Google’s data showed that in 2022, 65 apps developed by 24 Pakistani creators dominated the top 10 rankings in both gaming and app categories on the Play Store and App Store.

Pakistani apps achieved a global download count of four billion in the previous year, demonstrating a substantial annual growth rate of 30% from 2018 to 2022.

To further support Pakistani developers in seizing digital opportunities, Google organized a major in-person event for apps and games in Lahore, with over 500 developers and industry figures attending.

Google plans to enhance its support for the local app industry through initiatives like “Think Apps,” events aimed at sharing insights and trends from global experts with local developers.
