The business community of Peshawar has vowed to provide employment to 475 rehabilitated drug addicts for their improved future and to save them from returning to the drugs addiction.
Recently, Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud in the chaired where the meeting was attended by the representatives of the Tanzim-e-Tajran, Anjuman-Tajran, Tajir Insaf Group, Hotel & Restaurants’ Association, Petroleum Association and Peshawar Cantonment Tajir Association. Those who attended the meeting were included Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dr Ihtesham-ul-Haq, General Manager (GM) KP Economic Zones Development & Management Company (EZDMC) Ishfaq Afrid while the trading community was represented by Malik Meher Elahi, Haji Mohammad Afzal, Shahid Khan, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, Abdul Majid, Habibullah Zahid and others.
In the meeting, the representative of the traders association showed full confidence in the efforts of the Commissioner Peshawar, Riaz Khan Mehsud for the rehabilitation of drug addicts and guaranteed him full cooperation in provision of employment to them.
Further, ADC Dr Ihtesham-ul-Haq said that total 1200 drug addicts were rehabilitated in public and private rehabilitation centres during Narcotics Free Campaign launched on May 25, 2022.
However, On 25August 2022, these drug addicts are now detoxicated completely and would be handed over to their families.
Among 1200 rehabilitated drug addicts, 465 belongs to Peshawar and other parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa whereas, 725 belongs to Punjab, Sindh, Azad Kashmir and neighbouring country Afghanistan.
Through deputy commissioners of their concerned districts, the rehabilitated addicts of Punjab, Sindh and Azad Kashmir would be handed over to their families and job provision is also their responsibility.
Whereas, in the meeting commissioner Peshawar requested the trading community for providing job opportunities to 475 rehabilitated drug addicts in order to let them earn for their livelihood. However, the trading firms announced the employment opportunities to rehabilitated drug addicts according to their academic qualification. Similarly, other firms also announced to provide employment as per vacancies available in their companies.
Furthermore, KP-EZDMC representative also announced that the firm decided to provide paid internship to graduates.
