Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed a major Chinese investment as technology company IBI Beijing United Technology announced it will establish its Digital Economy Headquarters in Pakistan.
The announcement was made during a meeting between PM Shehbaz Sharif and an 11-member Chinese business delegation led by Qian Xiaojun, Founder, President, and Controlling Shareholder of IBI Group, at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on May 15, 2026.
This important initiative is expected to create new opportunities for Pakistani small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The headquarters will work as a “Digital Silk Road” to connect Pakistani businesses directly with Chinese manufacturers, suppliers, and markets. It aims to boost digital trade and could generate over $10 billion in potential trade.
PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the growing business-to-business (B2B) cooperation between Pakistan and China. He described the project as a major step toward Pakistan’s economic transformation and digital development.
Qian Xiaojun said IBI Group wants to build a strong digital infrastructure in Pakistan and help local companies grow through technology and industrial collaboration. The move is seen as a follow-up to the Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference held in Beijing in 2025.
This development further strengthens the deep strategic partnership between Pakistan and China under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
