Court Suspends Assistant Commissioner’s Salary Over 8-Year Delay in Widow’s Pension

In a strong action for justice, the Punjab Service Tribunal has ordered the attachment of the salary of the Assistant Commissioner (AC) and Collector of Tehsil Gujrat. This step comes after officials failed to implement a court order for more than eight years in favor of a widow.

The case involves Mst. Uzma Kausar, widow of late Sultan Mahmood, who worked as a patwari in Gujrat. The tribunal had given a clear judgment in her favor on December 20, 2018, regarding her pension rights. However, the order was never followed.

During a hearing on July 6, 2026, the tribunal expressed anger over the long delay. No compliance report was submitted, and no representative from the concerned department appeared in court. The judges called this a clear violation of their orders and basic principles of justice.

The tribunal directed that the AC’s salary should stay attached until the officer personally appears before the court and submits a full compliance report. It also ordered the District Accounts Officer, Gujrat, to enforce the attachment. A letter of displeasure will be placed in the Assistant Commissioner’s official service record.

This case highlights serious issues of delay and negligence in government departments. Widows and families of deceased employees often face long struggles for their legal rights.
