The crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders continues unabated, with the recent arrests of senior PTI members Dr. Shireen Mazari and Dr. Yasmin Rashid in separate police raids conducted in Islamabad and Lahore.
According to officials, the police carried out an early morning raid at Shireen Mazari’s residence in Islamabad on Friday, leading to her arrest. This development follows a series of arrests of several other PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ali Mohammad Khan, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhry.
Except for Imran Khan, all these leaders were arrested under section three of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
In addition to Shireen Mazari, former Punjab health minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid has also been arrested, according to a statement released by the PTI. PTI leader Andaleeb Abbas stated that Dr. Yasmin Rashid had been evading arrest by hiding. Previously, the police had detained her immediate family members, but her husband was released due to deteriorating health. Her brother-in-law remains in police custody.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid faces multiple cases, including an alleged attack on the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence.
Meanwhile, sources have informed Geo News that PTI leaders Khusro Baktiar, Afzal Sahi, and Bilal Basra have also been apprehended and transferred to Lahore’s Sarwar police station.
