Over the weekend in Dubai, special license plates were auctioned off and brought in nearly 31 crore PKR, with the top plate selling for nearly Dh4 million. The unique AA70 plate was sold for Dh3.82 million, making it the highest-selling plate at the auction.
It narrowly beat X7777, which went for Dh3.8 million. Other notable plates included Z43 (Dh2.85 million), Y96 (Dh2.66 million), and S888 (Dh2.3 million), making up the top five.
The total earnings from the auction were Dh49.7 million, which is a 30 percent increase from the previous auction earlier in the year that collected Dh38.21 million. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had 90 premium plates in the auction, ranging from two to five digits in length.
It’s important to mention that valuable license plates and phone numbers often fetch significant sums in the UAE, and these auctions often raise money for charitable causes.
In a similar auction in April, a determined bidder paid an astonishing Dh55 million for the highly sought-after number 7 plate, raising almost Dh100 million for a Ramadan food appeal. Plates like H31, W78, N41, AA19, AA22, X36, Z37, AA80, and others were also sold in this recent event.
All the money raised from this auction went to the One Billion Meals Endowment campaign, which aims to fight global hunger.
