Excess Duty on Mobile Phones Will Be Refunded by FBR

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Friday that due to a system glitch, it will refund the excess duty and taxes paid on the import of mobile phones.

According to an FBR statement, the problem will be fixed on Saturday afternoon after essential changes to the WeBOC system are made.

“As a result of the system glitch, all people who paid higher duty will be repaid the difference right away. The FBR apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused people who have had to pay excessive duty and taxes,” the statement said.

“Recently, at a meeting with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, it was revealed that travelers can register up to five mobile phones on their passports, and that the difference in duty/taxes between passport and CNIC registration is roughly Rs9,000 in the case of high-end phones costing more than US$500,” it added.
