According to foreign media, Bongo Bazaar and three adjacent commercial areas were severely affected by the fire and about 600 firefighters contributed to the efforts to control the fire.
Hundreds of shops were gutted in a fire in a market in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.
A Bangladeshi military spokesman said an Air Force helicopter was also involved in the attempt to douse the fire.
“Thousands of shops were burnt down and everything was destroyed,” said shopkeepers at the market.
