For foreign employees, Islamabad and Karachi were among the most affordable cities

Two Pakistani cities have been recognised among the world’s most affordable locations for international employees.

According to a 2021 cost of living assessment conducted by consultancy firm Mercer, Islamabad’s capital city and the country’s largest metropolis, Karachi, are placed 199 and 201, respectively, with the former up one spot and the latter down four places from last year.

The poll examines the costs of living in 209 cities throughout the world, and is based on expenses such as housing, transportation, and food.

It assists multinational corporations and governments in determining salaries for expatriate workers. Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata are also on the list, however their cost of living is higher than that of Pakistani cities.

Due to the growth of several problems, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashgabat in Turkmenistan has surpassed Hong Kong to become the world’s most expensive city, while Beirut has risen 42 places to become the third most expensive city.
