The year 2025 will bring four mesmerizing celestial events: two lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses. These phenomena, announced by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), are set to captivate stargazers worldwide, though not all will be visible from Pakistan.
The first event, a total lunar eclipse, will occur on March 14, 2025. Known as a “Blood Moon,” this spectacle will be visible in Europe, Australia, Africa, and the Americas. Unfortunately, viewers in Pakistan will miss this event.
Later in March, on the 29th, a partial solar eclipse will occur. This eclipse will light up skies over Europe, parts of Asia, and North and West Africa. Like the earlier lunar eclipse, it will not be visible in Pakistan.
The highlight for Pakistani sky enthusiasts comes on September 7, 2025, with the second total lunar eclipse of the year. This “Blood Moon” will be visible across the country, beginning at 8:28 pm and concluding at 1:55 am on September 8.
The final event of the year, another partial solar eclipse, will take place later in 2025. However, details regarding its visibility in Pakistan are yet to be confirmed.
Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth casts its shadow on the Moon, while solar eclipses happen when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. Both events are unique opportunities to marvel at the universe’s wonders.
Astronomers advise using proper safety gear, such as eclipse glasses, to view solar eclipses safely. With the September lunar eclipse visible in Pakistan, 2025 promises to be a memorable year for stargazers.
