Freelancers Earned More Than Rs.4 Billion from Abroad Since January 2020

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the country’s freelancers have earned more than Rs4 billion via a tech-based solution, according to Ghazanfar Azzam, president and CEO of Mobilink Microfinance Bank.

“Freelance work by IT professionals increased under the circumstances,” he said at a press conference, “but they were facing the problem of remittances of very small sums, ranging from $100 to $500.” Given that more professionals are taking on small IT work, we invented a solution.”

As businesses and trade suffered as a result of the coronavirus restrictions and lockdowns, the country’s e-commerce and IT sectors expanded. Pakistan has the world’s fourth-fastest-growing freelance industry. When the money was sent via a mainstream channel, however, freelancers faced delays and high costs.

He clarified that JazzCash, one of Mobilink Microfinance Bank’s subsidiaries, collaborated with Payoneer, an American financial services business that offers online money transfer and digital payment services.
