Government Designates Rs. 7.4 Billion to Build More Houses for Parliament Members

The federal government has set aside Rs. 7.4 billion in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the year 2025–26 to build more housing units for members of Parliament in Islamabad. This funding will be used to construct additional family suites along with 500 servant quarters. The project was officially approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on February 21, 2025.

The main goal of this project is to improve the housing facilities available to parliamentarians and their support staff. Many lawmakers currently rely on private housing or hotel accommodations, which not only adds to government expenses but also causes logistical difficulties. By providing dedicated and well-equipped residences, the government aims to solve these problems in a more permanent and cost-effective way.

This development is also seen as a step towards making the work of parliamentarians more efficient. Having modern and comfortable living spaces close to the Parliament will help lawmakers focus better on their duties. It will also reduce travel time and make it easier for them to attend sessions, meetings, and other official responsibilities.

By building a purpose-designed housing infrastructure, the government is showing its commitment to supporting the work of elected representatives and improving the overall functioning of the legislative system.
