Government to propose a 10% rise in salaries for parliamentarians

With the previous objective of not offering any further monetary benefit to an already privileged class, the government has suggested a 10 percent raise in the salaries of the members of parliament and four constitutional officers.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has moved a formal summary in order to boost the pay of parliamentarians by 10%. In addition, the proposal also provides for a 10 percent increase in the pay for the National Assembly’s spokesperson and Deputy Speaker and President and deputy Senate President.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that the proposal was not private but “the cabinet pay increases have already been refused by ministers.

Sources stated that, as Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Prime Minister Imran Khan has allowed the summary to increase salaries by 10 percent, for approval by the cabinet.
