Govt Moves to Ban New Gas Connections Across Pakistan

The government has once again decided to halt the issuance of new gas connections for both domestic and commercial consumers, as confirmed by the Ministry of Petroleum. The decision reflects growing concerns over the country’s strained gas supply system, which continues to face mounting pressure due to depleting natural reserves and a steady rise in demand. Authorities emphasized that the restriction is a necessary step to ensure that existing consumers receive uninterrupted supply, particularly during peak seasons when shortages tend to worsen.

Officials further explained that the move is part of a broader strategy to manage limited resources more efficiently and maintain stability in gas distribution across the country. The reintroduction of the ban, shortly after a previous restriction had been lifted, underscores the persistent energy challenges facing the sector. Analysts believe the policy could have far-reaching implications, especially for ongoing housing schemes and commercial ventures that rely heavily on gas connections. As a result, many consumers and developers may increasingly shift toward alternative energy sources such as electricity or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which could reshape consumption patterns in the coming years.
