Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has asked Pakistanis to reduce their fuel consumption. He said the government cannot control rising global oil prices, so lowering demand is the best way to handle the situation.
Speaking to the media, the minister explained that international tensions, such as proposed US fees on ships carrying Iranian oil, are pushing prices higher. He assured the public that Pakistan has enough petroleum stocks. Oil marketing companies hold at least 20 days of reserves, while refineries have crude oil for five to seven days.
Malik called for austerity measures and greater public cooperation to save energy. He urged people to use fuel wisely in daily travel, avoid unnecessary trips, and support government efforts to manage costs.
Pakistan imports a large part of its oil, so global price changes directly affect local petrol and diesel rates. The minister’s appeal comes at a time when many families are already feeling the pressure of high fuel costs on their budgets.
