The Global Peace Index has released its list of the safest countries in the world for 2023. Feeling safe while traveling is of utmost importance, whether you are alone or part of a marginalized community. The Institute of Economics and Peace ranks countries based on various factors like crime rates, violence, terrorism, and international conflicts.
For the year 2023, Iceland once again claims the top spot. This comes as no surprise as Iceland has consistently topped the poll since 2008. The country has low crime rates, minimal military spending, and few international conflicts.
Denmark secures the second position, largely due to its low levels of government corruption. Ireland, on the other hand, has jumped five places since last year’s poll and now holds the third position. Notably, Australia ranks 22nd, UK stands at 37th, USA ranks 131st and Pakistan is placed 146th on the list.
