Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities in the country to ensure uninterrupted gas and power supply to consumers during the month of Ramadan.
The prime minister also called for the provision of every possible facility to the private sector, local and foreign investors in the exploration of gas and oil, refining, and distribution of natural resources.
During a meeting on the petroleum sector, PM Shehbaz emphasized the need to enhance the country’s petroleum refining capacity and reduce gas sector losses through smart metering, identifying and taking strict action against gas and oil thieves.
He called for merit-based appointments of capable persons in the energy sector and sought the presentation of short, mid, and long-term strategies for energy sector reforms. The prime minister also directed the presentation of a strategy for the country’s mineral resources, their exploration, and the enhancement of exports.
Moreover, he called for the uplift of administrative infrastructure of the energy sector at par with international standards. The meeting was told that the country’s oil and gas reserves were depleting fast. And petroleum products worth $4 billion were being exported annually.
The meeting was also informed of the tight gas and undersea oil reserves and the interest of foreign investors in the sector. The prime minister instructed the relevant authorities to implement the energy sector reforms as a priority.
