After the pairings for the October-November 2022 tournament in Australia were published on Friday, India and Pakistan will face off in a blockbuster T20 World Cup group game for the second year in a row.
The arch-rivals will square off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23, a day after Australia begins their title defence against New Zealand in Sydney — a rematch of the 2021 final in Dubai, which Aaron Finch’s team won for the first time.
The 16-nation competition will get off on October 16 in Geelong, one of seven venues that Australia will host for the first time.
“Last time, our planning was quite precise, and knowing what the groups look like nine months out is extremely useful because it can help.”
“But it’s a challenging group, and when you factor in qualifiers like the West Indies and Sri Lanka, you have to play pretty well to get out of that group stage.”
