Internet services have been fully restored in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after a damaged optical fibre cable caused disruptions in parts of the twin cities on September 27, 2026.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said the problem was linked to an optical fibre cable cut in the network of a telecom operator. The fault affected mobile data and Wi-Fi services in some areas and caused connectivity problems for users of several service providers.
Earlier in the day, the PTA said technical teams had been deployed to repair the damaged fibre and warned that complete restoration could take several hours. The disruption was limited to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, nearby areas and some parts of the northern region, while internet services in central and southern parts of the country continued normally.
The authority later confirmed that the fibre fault had been repaired and services in the two cities were back to normal. Mobile data and Wi-Fi connectivity have now been restored across the affected areas.
The outage had caused temporary difficulties for residents relying on internet services for communication, work, online payments and other digital activities.
