Internet Services are Available to 87% of Pakistanis: PTA

Not only has the pandemic affected healthcare systems in the country, but the divide in internet connectivity in Pakistan has also been disclosed. The PTA reported that 87% of Pakistanis have access to the Internet.

The ‘Inclusive Internet Index’ sets expectations for the availability, affordability, importance and willingness of people to use the internet.

Approximately one million students have consistent access to the internet, as per the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority.

Due to increased use of social media and communications apps, video streaming, and online sessions, demand for Internet services grew tremendously in Pakistan during the lockdown in 2020. The quality of the services, however, remains comprehensive and has been described by users as ‘poor’ in many areas.
