IT Sector Growth is delayed in Pakistan due to Lack of Skilled Manpower- Dr Umar Saif

According to the computer scientist as well as the former Chairman of PITB, Dr. Umar Saif, in IT sector a major obstacle in the way of its growth in Pakistan is the lack of skilled manpower.

Saif while communication with the official channel said that the IT industry of Pakistan is taking off as it is now growing. According to the PSEB- Pakistan Software Export Board, 2,826 companies of IT have been registered in the SECP- Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan during the current financial year.

Dr Saif stated that officially the IT exports of the country stand at $1 – 1.25 billion; however, the actual figures stand at about $3-3.5 billion.

Moreover, while comparing the Pakistan’s IT exports with neighboring country, India, Dr. Saif said that Indian IT exports stood at a value of $100 billion that is approximately 30 times more than the IT exports of Pakistan.

He further added that “this all is because the IT industry of India employs about 4.5 million people as compared to our country, Pakistan that has only 125,000 persons in IT sector.”
