Suzuki Swift will be discontinued in Pakistan starting this year, according to Pak Suzuki. A statement revealed that production of the 1300cc hatchback will end after August. The compnay also paused advance bookings of the cultus variant for the time being.
Although there has been no official announcement from the corporation, multiple authorized dealerships have reported that they have been informed of the current model’s discontinuance.
The company also informed its business partners that total production volume will remain unchanged. However, depending on consumer demand, the monthly number may vary.
The second-generation Swift made its global debut in 2004 and was superseded by the third-generation model in 2010, although the hatchback was debuted in Pakistan the same year and stayed virtually unchanged for almost 12 years. Sales of the Swift fell during this time due to the presence of competing fuel-efficient Suzuki hatchbacks. For example, 5,509 Swift units were sold in FY2018-19, but just 2,316 units were sold in FY2020-21, a dismal 58 percent drop in sales.
PSMC, on the other hand, has temporarily halted Cultus bookings, with rumours claiming that no new orders will be accepted for at least a few weeks. Several Suzuki stores in various cities have stated that new bookings have been halted until further notice.
