Islamabad Police has made history by appointing Kainat Azhar as the first female Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of the federal capital. The appointment marks an important step toward increasing women’s representation in senior law enforcement positions and reflects the department’s commitment to equal opportunities.
As Chief Traffic Officer, Kainat Azhar will be responsible for managing traffic operations across Islamabad, improving road safety, reducing congestion, and ensuring better enforcement of traffic laws. She will also oversee public awareness campaigns and work with traffic personnel to provide efficient services to commuters.
The appointment has been welcomed by many as a positive move for gender inclusion in Pakistan’s police force. Women have increasingly joined policing in recent years, taking on roles in investigations, operations, and public service. However, leadership positions have traditionally been held by men, making this achievement especially significant.
Officials say the decision was based on merit and professional capability. They believe her experience and leadership skills will help strengthen traffic management in the capital and improve the overall experience for road users.
The milestone is expected to inspire more women to pursue careers in law enforcement and public administration. It also highlights Islamabad Police’s ongoing efforts to modernize its institution and promote diversity in key leadership roles.
