Karachi’s Feels-Like Temperature Gets Near 50°C as Heatwave Intensifies

Karachi is currently going through a strong heatwave, with temperatures rising close to 40°C. Due to high humidity levels, the feels-like temperature has climbed to around 46°C to 50°C, making the weather much more uncomfortable than usual.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the main reason behind this situation is the disruption of normal sea breeze flow. Karachi usually gets relief from cooling winds coming from the Arabian Sea, but weak sea breezes have allowed heat and humidity to build up across the city. This combination is increasing the heat index, which reflects how hot it actually feels to the human body.

Health experts warn that such conditions can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heatstroke, especially for children, elderly people, and outdoor workers. Hospitals often report a rise in heat-related illnesses during such periods.

Authorities have issued a heatwave alert and advised residents to take safety measures. People are encouraged to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and avoid going outside during peak afternoon hours, usually between 11 AM and 4 PM.

The Met Office has also indicated that the heatwave may continue for the next few days if weather patterns do not change. Citizens are urged to stay updated with official forecasts and take precautions to stay safe during extreme heat conditions.
