KP announces a new waste-free tourist project

The Travel Department, as part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development Project (KITE), has launched a new project at the province’s tourist destinations to promote responsible tourism for a waste-free future.

According to a press release, the KITE, Galiyat Development Authority in Abbottabad, and Nestlé Pakistan jointly launched the TREK (Travel Responsibly for Experiencing Ecotourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) awareness campaign.

The TREK is a partnership between the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the World Bank KITE Project, and Nestlé to promote responsible tourism in Nathiagali for a waste-free future.

Touseef Khalid, KITE Project Director, said TREK was a one-of-a-kind initiative being implemented in partnership with the World Bank Group and Nestlé Pakistan to reduce, reuse, and recycle, as well as a community engagement plan that includes activities that will help combat waste, pollution, and wildlife destruction.

“Among TREK’s activities are the provision of solid waste management equipment, tourist awareness campaigns, the installation of information boards, and training of local communities on waste minimization and collection, in addition to the provision of restrooms for tourists’ convenience under KITE,” the official explained.
