Lahore recently experienced a record-breaking rainfall, with 350 millimeters of rain falling within just three hours. This unprecedented downpour broke a 44-year-old record, causing widespread flooding across the city.
Major roads like Mall Road and Ferozepur Road were submerged, leading to severe traffic disruptions and power outages. Approximately 288 feeders from Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) were affected, leaving many areas without electricity.
The heavy rains also flooded homes and even Services Hospital, impacting daily activities and healthcare services. The Lahore airport recorded the highest amount of rainfall, with 337 millimeters, while other parts of the city also faced substantial downpours.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has issued warnings of continued heavy rains across the country until August 6. This weather pattern is due to strong monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, which are expected to bring more rainfall to various regions, exacerbating the already challenging conditions.
Residents are advised to take precautions and stay informed about weather updates to ensure their safety during this period of intense rainfall.
