Police constable Saba Kanwal was hospitalised following an alleged suicide attempt at Islamgarh Police Station in Khanpur, Punjab, and was later discharged after receiving medical treatment.
The incident comes after an earlier video statement in which Kanwal spoke about difficulties in her personal life. She alleged that her parents had forced her to marry her paternal cousin and accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to violence and issuing death threats.
In the video, she also expressed concerns about her safety around her brothers and appealed to the provincial government to provide her with protection.
Following the incident, SDPO Shahid Nazir said Kanwal had been temporarily transferred to police headquarters. He added that police officers were handling the matter according to her wishes and consent.
The case has drawn attention to the allegations made by the police constable and her request for protection. Authorities are dealing with the matter while taking her stated concerns into consideration.
Kanwal’s allegations against her family members and in-laws have not been independently verified. No further details regarding the alleged violence or threats have been established from independent sources.
The incident has also brought attention to the challenges faced by individuals who report domestic or family-related disputes and seek protection from authorities. Further action in the case will depend on the findings of the relevant authorities and any formal proceedings that may follow.
