Lahore Police Officers Booked Under Begging Laws for Demanding ‘Eidi’ From Citizens

Several police personnel in Lahore have been booked under anti-beggary laws after they were accused of asking members of the public for “Eidi,” according to officials.

A police spokesperson said complaints were received against officers posted in the Shahdara and Islampura areas. Citizens reportedly alleged that the officers were requesting money in the name of Eid celebrations.

Following the complaints, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered an inquiry into the matter. Authorities investigated the allegations to determine whether the claims against the officers were true.

According to officials, the inquiry confirmed the accusations, leading to legal action against the involved personnel. After the findings, FIRs were registered at Shahdara and Islampura police stations under relevant legal sections, including provisions related to anti-beggary laws.

Police officials stated that disciplinary measures would continue against any officer found involved in misconduct or misuse of authority. They added that maintaining accountability within the department is necessary to preserve public trust and uphold professional standards.

Authorities emphasized that no official would be given special treatment if found guilty of inappropriate behaviour. They said strict action is important to protect the reputation of the police force and ensure transparency.

The incident has drawn attention on social media, where discussions around accountability and professional conduct among public servants continue. Many believe such actions are necessary to discourage misuse of position and improve public confidence in institutions.

Further proceedings are expected as authorities continue reviewing the case and determine additional action against those involved. The investigation remains part of wider efforts to strengthen accountability within law enforcement departments.
