Laptop and PC shortage to continue in 2021 due to high demand during the pandemic

The pandemic has made the world shifted towards working from home. According to the report, due to this world has been buying the Personal Computers (PCs) or the laptops like never before. The sales of laptops and computers have not been seen to this extreme level since the year, 2007 according to the experts and manufacturers they are not even close to fulfill or bridging the demand-supply gap in the world.

The main cause for high demand appears due to the requirement of additional computers like the PCs or laptops for remote learning like for schools, universities and also the work from home (WFH) environment in corporate businesses. At hardware maker Acer Inc., the Gregg Prendergast, Pan-America president said that, “The whole supply chain of PC and laptops has been strained like it has never before.”

The analysts have expected that the global shipments for computers will also close at 300 million by the end of this year, 2020 that is still way short of fulfilling the demand this year. In comparison, these global shipments have topped out at the 300 million way back that was in 2008 and have not yet reached that mark ever since then.

According to the research company Canalys, it has stated that by the end of 2021, the installed PCs or laptops and the tablets will reach up to 1.77 billion, as up from 1.64 billion in the previous year, 2019. The report also mentions that the sales anticipated will be way higher than that for 2021 and would be even much higher than expected, if it will not fulfil the supply gap. The vice president, Ryan Reith at an analyst firm IDC said that Additional government stimulus money for the schools and the businesses in several countries may also add to the crunch until the year 2022.
