Nation Remembers Ex-PM Benazir Bhutto on Her 16th Death Anniversary

Today marks the 16th death anniversary of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto. The main commemoration event is scheduled to take place at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, and all necessary arrangements have been finalized for the occasion.

In Garhi Khuda Buksh, the shrines of martyrs and the surrounding areas have been adorned with banners and party flags, creating a somber yet respectful atmosphere.

Carpets have been laid out for party workers to sit on, and walk-through gates have been installed at the entrances of the shrines to facilitate the gathering.

Central leadership, including PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, and others, have arrived in Larkana to participate in the anniversary event. The presence of these political figures underscores the significance of Benazir Bhutto’s legacy and the impact of her tragic assassination on the political landscape of Pakistan.

Benazir Bhutto met her untimely demise in a gun and bomb attack weeks before the general elections in 2007. The attack occurred as she was returning from addressing an election rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi.

Her tragic death, along with the loss of many of her party activists in the same incident, sent shockwaves through the political arena, leading to widespread anarchy and arson attacks that caused significant economic losses to the country.

Benazir Bhutto is remembered as one of the most dynamic figures in world politics, and her relentless struggle for democracy has been posthumously recognized and honored globally.

The observance of her death anniversary serves as a poignant moment for reflection on her contributions to Pakistani politics and the enduring impact of her legacy on the principles of democracy.
