National Assembly of Pakistan Likely to Dissolve on 8th August

Sources claim that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have reached an agreement to dissolve the National Assembly on 8th August.

The two major political parties have made the decision as the current five-year constitutional term of the National Assembly will expire on 12th August. According to the constitution, general elections must be held within 60 days following the expiration of the assembly’s term.

However, if the assembly is set to dissolve earlier, Pakistan’s Election Commission must conduct the general polls within 90 days.

As per the sources, the parties also discussed August 9 or 10 but they finalized on 8th August to avoid an inconvenience in the early dissolution of the assembly. If President Pakistan does not approve, National Assembly will be dissolved after 48 hours providing the government a significant time to meet its objective of early dissolution.
