Facebook has collaborated with Nayatel to improve and expand internet connectivity across Pakistan, marking the company’s first investment in the country.
Nayatel will own, build, maintain, and manage a new fibre network and sell wholesale capacity to mobile operators and ISPs as part of this agreement, while Facebook will invest in the fibre network and provide network design help.
By 2022, this high-speed fibre will connect thousands of sites, increasing the capacity and geographic reach of the internet to 10 to 15 million people in Pakistan’s eight largest cities. Because of the Covid-19 lockdowns, high-speed, dependable, and affordable broadband has become a basic household necessity.
Nayatel will deploy new fibre networks as backbone infrastructure for 4G/5G mobile and fixed broadband, which is a vital engine of economic growth and job creation, as part of the cooperation. Facebook is assisting operators in leveraging fibre infrastructure to improve access to affordable Internet by investing in and supporting network construction.
This is Facebook’s first initiative in Pakistan, and it’s part of a larger plan to invest in the country and improve connectivity in the country.
