The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that new currency notes will be introduced in 2025. These redesigned banknotes will be released gradually, but the specific denominations have not been revealed yet.
According to SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed, the new designs were chosen through an art competition held by the central bank. However, before they are officially approved, they will go through a technical review and will require final approval from the federal government.
One of the main reasons for introducing new currency notes is to improve security features and make them more modern. Many countries update their banknotes every 15 to 20 years to incorporate the latest advancements in security and design. Pakistan is following the same global practice to ensure its currency remains secure and up to date.
At this stage, the selected designs are being refined with the help of international experts to ensure they meet high-quality standards before they are officially launched.
