Over a million overseas Azad Kashmir’s residents to get voting rights

On Wednesday, the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) agreed to provide nearly one million overseas AJK citizens the right to vote in general elections. Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, the AJK premier, presided over a cabinet meeting that made the decision.

The cabinet also adopted an Amendment Act that will create a specific fund in the region to provide financial help to widows and orphans.

It was also determined to collect data on Ehsaas programme beneficiaries in order to create a transparent financial aid system for widows and orphans.

Other decisions made during the cabinet meeting included instituting a “one-dish” system for weddings and other social occasions that must be finished by 10 p.m.
