Pakistan Becomes Third-Largest Solar Panel Importer in the world

Pakistan has now become the third-largest country in the world for importing solar panels. This major shift is happening because the cost of electricity in the country has been rising steadily, leading more and more people to look for cheaper and more reliable sources of energy like solar power.

According to solar panel importers, around 2,000 to 2,500 containers filled with solar panels are being brought into Pakistan every single month through local ports. This shows just how quickly the demand for solar energy is growing across the country.

In 2024 alone, Pakistan imported solar panels with a combined capacity of 17 gigawatts, a record high for the nation. One major reason behind this rapid growth is the significant drop in prices. Just a short while ago, the cost of solar panels was about Rs110 per watt, but now it has fallen to around Rs27 per watt, making solar energy much more affordable for households and businesses alike.

Because of these lower prices, people are not just using solar panels to power basic lights and fans anymore — they are now running heavy appliances like irons, refrigerators, and even air conditioners with solar energy.

Solar panels from countries like China, Germany, and others are now easily available in markets all over Pakistan. This increase in supply and demand has given a major boost to the renewable energy sector, creating new business opportunities and helping more people adopt clean and sustainable energy solutions for their daily needs.

The trend clearly shows that Pakistan is moving steadily toward a future that relies more on renewable energy sources and less on expensive traditional electricity.
