Pakistan’s energy sector could see fresh investment following a new cooperation agreement between Shaheen Energy (Pvt) Limited and China-based Anton Oilfield Services Group.
The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore investment opportunities estimated at around Rs. 20 billion over the next three to five years. The proposed cooperation will focus on Pakistan’s gas and upstream energy sector, with both sides bringing different areas of expertise to potential projects.
The partnership will assess opportunities across several parts of the gas value chain. These include third-party gas sales, development of existing fields, increasing production from mature assets, gas processing and the development of related energy infrastructure.
Shaheen Energy is expected to contribute its understanding of Pakistan’s local operating environment along with its experience in gas processing. Anton Oilfield Services Group, meanwhile, will bring international oilfield technologies and technical expertise in upstream operations.
A key area of the proposed cooperation will be the development of stranded and low-pressure gas resources. Such resources can be difficult to commercially develop without suitable technology and infrastructure. The companies aim to examine technology-based solutions that could make these gas reserves more productive.
The cooperation could also support efforts to reduce gas flaring by improving the utilisation and processing of resources that might otherwise remain underused.
The proposed investment reflects growing interest in Pakistan’s domestic energy resources and the potential for international technology partnerships to support production and infrastructure development. Further details about individual projects are expected to emerge as both companies assess specific opportunities under the MoU.
