The Space Applications and Research Centre (SPARC-GB) was inaugurated by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) on October 2.

The ceremony, attended by GB Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, marks the establishment of the country’s first space research hub in the region. SPARC-GB aims to tackle pressing environmental and socio-economic issues, focusing on climate change, glacier melt, and water resource management.

SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan emphasized the center’s role in supporting the local community through job creation and capacity building. The center will enhance satellite monitoring capabilities to address the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters.
