Pakistan Likely to Provide up to Rs. 13,000 Relief in Electricity Bill, Here’re the Details

The temporary government, in response to widespread protests about high electricity bills, has come up with a plan to help people. They want to give a discount of Rs3,000 to those who use up to 300 units of electricity on their October bills.

People who have bills between Rs60,000 and Rs70,000 will also get a big discount of up to Rs13,000. They are also talking to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about these discounts.

The IMF has asked for more information to decide if they should agree to these discounts or not. People in Pakistan have been protesting because their electricity bills are too high, and the government is trying to make things better.

The government had hoped the IMF would agree to the plan within 48 hours, but they are still waiting for a response. The plan involves reducing part of the electricity cost (up to 30%) for August and September and passing on the savings to people over six months, from October 2023 to March 2024.
