Pakistan Registers Highest Population Growth Rtae in Pakistan

Pakistan has become the fifth most populous country in the world, with an annual population growth rate of 2.4 percent. It has the highest population growth rate in Asia, according to data released by the Population Council on World Population Day.

The data reveals concerning statistics related to maternal and child health in Pakistan. Approximately 11,000 mothers die during childbirth each year, and 62 out of every 1,000 children do not survive until their first birthday. On average, each mother in Pakistan gives birth to four children, contributing to the rapid population growth.

Malnutrition is prevalent among children, with 40 percent suffering from it and 29 percent being underweight. Additionally, 18 percent of children under the age of five are not growing properly.

The population growth poses challenges in various sectors. By 2040, Pakistan will need over 100 million jobs and 20 million houses annually. The country is also facing a severe water shortage due to the increasing population. Furthermore, there is a significant need for more primary schools, with 85,000 additional schools required by 2040. Unfortunately, one out of every three children in Pakistan is not receiving an education.

In comparison to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh have managed to control their population growth. The use of contraceptives in Pakistan is low, with only 34 out of 100 couples utilizing them. On average, married couples in Pakistan have one unplanned child. Additionally, 12 percent of people aged 20 to 24 are unemployed.

The data highlights the urgent need for effective measures to address the challenges posed by rapid population growth in Pakistan, including improving healthcare services, promoting family planning, addressing malnutrition, and expanding educational opportunities.
