Pakistan Women’s Team Makes History with First-Ever T20 Win Over New Zealand

The Pakistan women’s cricket team scripted a historic triumph, clinching a remarkable seven-wicket victory against New Zealand in the first T20I at Dunedin’s University of Otago Oval. This win marked a significant milestone as Pakistan secured their maiden T20I triumph over the formidable New Zealand side, known as the White Ferns.

Chasing a target of 128, Pakistan’s opening duo of Shawaal Zulfiqar and Muneeba Ali set the tone with a resilient 40-run partnership. Shawaal, in her debut T20I on New Zealand soil, showcased her prowess by notching her highest T20I score of 41, setting the stage for a memorable chase. The experienced combination of Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz steered the team with finesse, ensuring a composed victory.

Pakistan’s bowlers displayed immense skill by containing the White Ferns to 127 for six. Fatima Sana, with her right-arm fast deliveries, shone brightly, scalping three crucial wickets for a mere 18 runs.

Despite New Zealand’s efforts, led by Maddy Green’s unbeaten 44 off 28 balls, Pakistan’s determined bowling attack kept them in check throughout the innings.

The upcoming matches hold promise, with the second T20I scheduled at the same venue on December 5 and the final encounter set for Queenstown on December 9. The series not only signifies Pakistan’s historic breakthrough but also sets the stage for an enthralling showdown between these competitive teams, promising more gripping cricketing action ahead.
