Pakistani boxer Agha Kaleem achieved a significant victory on Monday by clinching the title in the Light Fly Weight category at the World Muaythai Boxing Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Hailing from Karachi and at the age of 23, Kaleem competed in the Senior Amateur 51-kilogram division. In a statement made on Friday, he highlighted that his participation was not only in representation of Pakistan but also in solidarity with Palestine.
The World Muaythai Championships are a prestigious annual event for Muaythai, also known as Thai boxing. Organized by the International Federation of Muaythai Associations, this championship is considered one of the highest levels of competition in the sport globally.
Kaleem shared insights about the competitive nature of this year’s championship, mentioning that it featured talented fighters from over 40 countries.
“I had a challenging bout against a highly skilled boxer from Kazakhstan, who is a three-time World and two-time Asian Champion,” Kaleem remarked. “Another competitor from India was initially set to fight me but opted out. As a result, I advanced directly to the final round where I faced a tough opponent and emerged victorious.”
Prior to entering the competition, Kaleem took to social media to announce that he was representing both Pakistan and Palestine in the championship. A video accompanying his post captured him during the tournament’s opening ceremony, proudly waving the flags of both nations.
