Pakistani spin legend Abdul Qadir inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

Abdul Qadir, a renowned leg-spinner for Pakistan, was honoured with induction into the ICC Hall of Fame for his outstanding cricket career that lasted for more than a decade.

Qadir, who passed away in 2019, joins the group after a distinguished career that saw him play for Pakistan in 104 ODI games and 67 Test matches over a 13-year span.

Qadir is well known for revolutionising the spin bowling technique. He had a distinctive demeanour when approaching the crease and a recognisably eye-catching skip and leap in his delivery stride.

According to the ICC’s blog, Qadir played for Pakistan in 171 international matches across the two formats and concluded his career with 236 Test wickets, which still ranks third among all Pakistani spinners. He also took 132 ODI wickets.

Shane Warne, a legend in his own Australia, recalled how Qadir inspired him while he was watching him on television in the 1980s. He is also well recognised for inspiring the following generations of spinners around the world.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), also known as “the magician” for his bowling ability, admitted Qadir into its Hall of Fame earlier this year.
